LOWELL — Several barbershops that were shut down by the city late last week have reopened.
Barbershops were forced to close if they didn’t have proper permits, but city inspectional staff also found health and safety violations in some instances.
As of Wednesday, four barbershops have reopened, according to the city: Expertease, 11 Central St.; T’s Barber Shop, 401 Lakeview Ave.; Pupi’s, 183 E. Merrimack St.; and Lowell’s Finest, 702 Gorham St.
In all, 11 barbershops were closed at least temporarily as part of a crackdown on businesses operating without proper licenses. Earlier this year, the city prioritized bringing into compliance properties owned by what it deemed Lowell’s worse problem landlords.
